[spoiler]The protagonist has fabricated his true identity, because it would be useful for infiltration into SHEEPIII. His real name is [b]Katagiri Hitoha[/b], and he has two objectives. The first one is to get to know the truth about the SHEEP tragedy seven years ago, which claimed the life of his sister, Hitose. The second one is to alter the course of the SHEEPIII incident, which is about to occur and in which only him and [url=https://vndb.org/c61550]Momoi Yukari[/url] will survive. The incident itself was caused by him, as he hacked the SHEEPIII's systems and rewrote its program. He estimated that it would give him an opportunity to obtain information from its computers. Nevertheless, he was unaware of the horrific creatures on the sea floor and the measures ROMLES had taken to contain them. Because of this, even though Hitoha's simulation indicated that his strategy would succeed, reality turned out to be entirely different. First off, he could only hack the submarine systems thanks to [url=https://vndb.org/c111528]Nomura Reiri[/url]'s backdoor. Second, due to the quick sinking of the submarine, ozone exploded, the back section's top two floors were flooded, and various other damage was sustained. Third, there was a COOS in the water near the sea floor and sea creatures were infected by it.

When Hitoha's parents died, he left only his cheerful and kind older sister, Hitose. She replaced him a mother and genuinely cared about him. After some time, she enrolled in graduate school and immediately began working for ROMLES. Seven years ago, Hitose went on an underwater expedition of SHEEP and died of an undisclosed cause. After that, the protagonist lived only to know the cause of her death. Using the business card of the person who came to him from ROMLES to extend their condolences, he got access to the ROMLES system development department. Nevertheless, he was unable to find any relevant information in the systems he could get access to. In order to know the truth, he decided to take an extreme step—gaining access to SHEEPIII's computers directly from inside.[/spoiler]

The SHEEPIII's underwater voyage doctor. An unkempt but brave individual, willing to put his life on the line to do his duty. He is ready to do what needs to be done and is by no means irresolute. Nevertheless, he is susceptible to pressure. As a doctor, he values lives and makes efforts to save all of them, though he understands perfectly well that it is not always possible.

Sousuke was picked for the particular underwater expedition because of his remarkable medical skills. [i]Little did he know, to which nightmare this assignment would lead...[/i]

[spoiler]In truth, prior to the "Fourth Day" incident, he brought a very dear person to him in an oceanarium. On the way back, a supernova explosion of Betelgeuse occurred, which led to a massive traffic incident. It entangled Sousuke and that person as well. The first one was almost intact, while the second one was dying. Sousuke then began to help with the triage of the injured. He assigned his dear person a red tag, despite her condition requiring a black one. That person was saved at the cost of other lives. It has since become his trauma.[/spoiler]

A mysterious person on the underwater voyage of SHEEPIII. A self-proclaimed poet. She introduces herself with her pen name -- Lumiere Hikari. She cares about her older sister.

It is a mystery how Hikari managed to obtain a ticket for the particular voyage. She was most eager to meet with her sister. [i]Little did she know, to which nightmare her wish would lead...[/i]

[spoiler]Her real name is Saihouji Rumi. She is [url=https://vndb.org/c61549]Tokiwa[/url]'s little sister. Seven years ago, prior to the "Fourth Day" incident, she was infected with the Alice virus. As she said herself, she was bitten by a mermaid. Unaware of it, she had infected her sister, [url=https://vndb.org/c61549]Tokiwa[/url], with the virus. Along with her, Rumi spent the entire seven years sleeping due to the aftereffects. Her father was both a proper father and a proper scientist. For that reason, he cured her sister [url=https://vndb.org/c61549]Tokiwa[/url] and was planning to let Rumi sleep and be researched, since patients infected with the Alice virus are very rare.

However, influenced by [url=https://vndb.org/c111761]Katagiri Hitose[/url], he has temporarily woken her up and let her go on the underwater voyage. [url=https://vndb.org/c111528]Nomura Reiri[/url] also had a significant part to play. She made a backdoor in the core system of SHEEPIII to enable her to move up the board. Also, she wore smartglasses in the opening ceremony to let Rumi "attend" it through them. At the same time, Rumi was hiding in a costume in a storeroom. This is how she was able to go on the voyage.[/spoiler]

A ROMLES member. A stoic and hard-working person, capable of making difficult decisions and acting appropriately in urgent situations. Outside of these situations, she is not as tough as she tries to be. She appears younger than she actually is. As the chief tour guide and as a ROMLES member, she has her responsibilities, but these don't always match.

Yukari applied to become the chief tour guide of SHEEPIII's underwater voyage. She is at the highest position of the submarine staff and may be referred to as the submarine captain, although there is no such exact position in the SHEEPIII, as it is managed by AI on autopilot. She has information, albeit limited, of the horrific dangers that SHEEPIII will face underwater. [i]Yet little did she know, that impending nightmare could be stopped no more...[/i]

[spoiler]Seven years ago, Yukari managed to survive SHEEP's tragic underwater mission with the primary objective of recovering COOS cases that were lost in Kurama Bay during the "Forth Day" incident. [url=https://vndb.org/c61552]The protagonist[/url]'s older sister, [url=https://vndb.org/c111761]Katagiri Hitose[/url], and Ryuuzan Haruki were also on that mission, although they were already infected with the Alice virus prior to it and became incapacitated shortly after. As a result of the developed syndrome, Haruki and [url=https://vndb.org/c111761]Hitose[/url] fell into a long and deep sleep. Yukari attempted to treat the first one by administering oxygen but mistook it for ozone. This resulted in his death from ozone poisoning after the rescue. In the end, Yukari managed to lift the submerged submarine by manually detaching its ballast. Nevertheless, Yukari misunderstands the truth about the Alice virus. Additionally, she believes that Haruki is in a coma and [url=https://vndb.org/c111761]Hitose[/url] has passed away. It has become a deep regret for her that she left her alone on the sea floor.[/spoiler]

[spoiler]The sister of [url=https://vndb.org/c61547]Touri[/url]. Quite arrogant and sarcastic. Being proactive, cool and smart, she is ready to make the necessary decisions, even if it does mean sacrificing lives. Having enough knowledge and skills, she is competent enough to put her plans into practice. Her main obstacle is the weakness of her body. She has no qualms about utilizing others to achieve her goals. Nevertheless, her desire to keep [url=https://vndb.org/c61547]her sister[/url] safe is strong and genuine.

Reiri got a ticket on this particular voyage due to being a person related to the project. She is a talented programmer and is the one who wrote SHEEPIII's core systems. Using her connections, she also obtained a ticket for her sister, [url=https://vndb.org/c61547]Touri[/url], who had expressed interest in joining the voyage. The true goal of Reiri is to control the COOS network and thus obtain an "oracle." With the use of it, she could get unique data about outer space. There is a method to manage the COOS network—to suppress it with the use of the Alice virus. In order to acquire the virus, Reiri played a part in the plan to bring Alice-carrier, [url=https://vndb.org/c61548]Saihouji Rumi[/url], on board, cooperating with her father. Her role was to create a backdoor in SHEEPIII's systems. Nevertheless, unbeknownst to her, [url=https://vndb.org/c61552]the protagonist[/url] used that backdoor to hack the system and rewrite the program. This has led to the tragedy. Reiri has information about the horrific dangers that SHEEPIII will face underwater. [i]Yet little did she know, that impending nightmare could be stopped no more...[/i]

In the past, right before the "Fourth Day" incident, she visited an oceanarium with her family: her mother and [url=https://vndb.org/c61547]sister[/url]. On the way back, a supernova explosion of Betelgeuse occurred, which led to a massive traffic incident. It entangled Reiri and her family as well. Reiri is fully aware that [url=https://vndb.org/c61547]her sister[/url] swapped her black triage tag with her mother's red one. After that day, she got the determination to protect [url=https://vndb.org/c61547]Touri[/url] and the only way to do that was to use knowledge. But the most coveted knowledge for her was a truly unique one that anyone would want to obtain. Reiri lived only with knowledge. Days after days, she read books and learned, occasionally conducting experiments. She eventually began utilizing a particular medicine to remain active for the full six days of a week. It was an exchange of health for time.[/spoiler]

Two weeks ago, Touri uttered that she wanted to go on a voyage and got a ticket from her sister afterwards. This voyage was not an ordinary one, but the first one of this innovative submarine. A ticket on it was only available to a limited few dozen persons. The majority of them were project-related individuals. Touri was therefore perplexed as to how her sister acquired such a rare ticket. [i]Little did she know, to which nightmare her wish would lead...[/i]

[spoiler]In the past, right before the "Fourth Day" incident, she visited an oceanarium with her family: her mother and [url=https://vndb.org/c111528]sister[/url]. Her mother asked Touri to swap her tag with [url=https://vndb.org/c111528]sister[/url]'s one so that the [url=https://vndb.org/c111528]sister[/url] may live instead of her. Touri made the decision to do just as she was asked and developed trauma as a result.[/spoiler]

A genius scientist, who achieved important results such as increasing the efficiency of solar panels to 12%. It is she who shaped the Island of Wind, which produces green electricity. For the entire past seven years, she hasn't been seen in public even once, which sparked numerous rumors. An eccentric and upright person who believes that lying is wrong and that all living creatures are equal and should not be killed lightly. Her father's upbringing is what caused her to turn out this way. Her main interest is sea creatures.

Tokiwa got a ticket to SHEEPIII's underwater voyage some time after telling her father that she was interested in going. It was the first time she observed sea creatures in their natural habitat with her own eyes. [i]Little did she know, to which nightmare her interest would lead...[/i]

[spoiler]It was she who offered a solution to the problem of isolating sea creatures in a certain area without hurting them by utilizing a technique based on bubble-net feeding. Because of that, ROMLES was able to minimize the harm caused by the COOS spill in Kurama Gulf, although unbeknownst to her, they used an ozone to trap infected creatures. In truth, seven years ago, prior to the "Forth Day" incident, she was infected with the Alice virus by her sister [url=https://vndb.org/c61548]Rumi[/url]. It was before the infection that she expressed her desire to go on the SHEEP's underwater voyage. Tokiwa was cured with gene therapy by restoring cryptochromes. That treatment method was invented by her father. There was a side effect—she became able to perceive magnetic fields. Still, she did not notice that she had slept for all seven years and did not know which year it truly was.[/spoiler]

A state-of-the-art artificial intelligence, installed on SHEEPIII. Its functions are to operate the submarine and communicate with passengers and personnel. Its voice cannot be classified as either female or male.

In order to communicate with it, there are speakers installed in each of the passengers' cabins on the roof, along with microphones near the doors and in red marks on the bedside. Besides the cabins, these devices are installed almost everywhere in the submarine. Also, Personell has special PDAs with a portable version of AI.

It is not particularly useful in emergency situations. [i]It knew nothing about the upcoming nightmare...[/i]

An older sister of the protagonist. A cheerful and energetic person, but being abnormally interested in the sea, she could be described as a "sea maniac". She cared a lot about [url=https://vndb.org/c61552]her brother[/url]. After their parents died, she replaced him a mother.

Seven years ago, she passed away on the SHEEP underwater expedition of an unknown cause. [i]Little did she know, to which nightmare many years later it would lead...[/i]

[spoiler]Her true name is [b]Katagiri Hitose[/b]. In the evening before the start of the expedition, she went for a walk with its leader, Ryuuzan Haruki, at the seashore. Here they have found [url=https://vndb.org/c61548]Saihouji Rumi[/url], bitten by an unknown creature and infected with the Alice virus. Although they had saved her, they too had become infected with the virus in turn. On the expedition, they fell into a deep sleep due to the virus's aftereffects. Unlike Haruki, Hitose has survived the tragedy, still sleeping. Four years later, she has naturally cured from the Alice syndrom. It was the first and only case of the syndrome being naturally recovered from. After the awakening, she got a connection with Saihouji. She learned to program and began her new life as a mediocre coder. Because of the aforementioned connection, she has become related to the SHEEPIII project. Her first role was to write its navigation program along with [url=https://vndb.org/c111528]Nomura Reiri[/url]. After that, she made contributions to unforeseen situation avoidance systems. [url=https://vndb.org/c61552]Katagiri Hitoha[/url] and [url=https://vndb.org/c61550]Momoi Yukari[/url] were told that Hitose had died, so she decided not to reveal her survival to them. [i]That decision was a grave mistake—it has led to the SHEEPIII tragedy.[/i][/spoiler]
