Description
A young magazine journalist returned to the village where he spent his childhood, accompanied by his female assistant, for a story.
What awaited him was the same oppressive, stifling atmosphere he remembered from his youth—and a childhood friend who had grown into a stunningly beautiful young woman.
This woman, who now used her body to dominate the men of the village, sought to draw the two of them into the village’s insular, suffocating circle.
The Moon Women
In this village, women who exhibited strange behavior from time to time were said to be possessed by foxes.
The men called these women kitsune-tsuki (fox-possessed) and took it upon themselves to "manage" them.
Under the guise of exorcising the foxes, the men would violate these women.
Over time, the term kitsune-tsuki gradually shifted to tsuki-onna (possessed women).
Since the men would visit these women at night, in a village with no streetlights, the moonlight became their guide.
And so, the tsuki(possessed)-onna came to be known as tsuki(moon)-onna—Moon Women.
