Heir apparent to the Shimazu Family, one of the southern military houses of the Imperial State.
From early childhood, she was placed in an elite academy and subjected to rigorous training for the battlefield.
Because of her eccentric behaviour and words, few within the military truly understand her.
Amid this, she feels a special fondness for the protagonist, who is able to communicate with her — though she herself is unaware of these feelings.

Current head of the Hosokawa Family, one of the Rokukyō.
She serves as Supreme Commander of the “Northern Army”, organized in response to the second invasion by the Great Empire of Ivan.

Her intellectual and graceful manner befits her noble lineage.
On the battlefield, she demonstrates foresightful cunning and the decisiveness to carry it out, making her regarded as one of the Mizuho Imperial State’s foremost strategists.

During the First Mizuho–Ivan War three years earlier, she commanded the Hosokawa Imperial Guard Division.
She herself piloted one of the newly deployed Mechanical Armour of the Rokukyō Families, fighting on the front lines.

A member of the Ivan Empire’s Eastern Expeditionary Army.
The multi-legged T07-β she pilots may fall short of Mizuho’s machines in overall performance, yet its simplified design allows for heavier armour and far more efficient repairs.

Though young, she is a seasoned veteran who survived the war against the United Kingdom of Rimvon, with a remarkable ability to adapt to walking tanks. She is both capable and dependable, as well as a soldier of high calibre and a commander her subordinates can trust. On the other hand, she rarely opens her heart to others, which often makes her come across as condescending.

Commander of the Uesugi Imperial Guard Division—one of the central divisions of the Rokukyō—as well as the Capital Defence Division.
She is the current head of the Uesugi Family, one of the Rokukyō Families, and the mother of Yayoi.
With the Great Empire of Ivan launching its second invasion, she now serves as acting commander of the Ryōjun Fortress.

She is open-hearted and approachable, yet she exudes a sensual allure that is difficult to reconcile with that of a mother of one child.
However, she is a strict parent towards her daughter. At times, her words and actions reveal a readiness to pursue the prosperity of the Uesugi Family by any means necessary, creating tension between mother and child.

Three years ago, during the war, she distinguished herself in battle by using the Rokukyō Families’ Mechanical Armour.
In that conflict, having taken a liking to the protagonist, Ren permitted Hayakawa’s machine, Kotetsu, to bear the Sanskrit character of Bishamonten—the guardian deity of the Uesugi Family.

19th to Early 20th Century

An era in which territorial expansion was carried out around the world according to the rules of the great powers. The Great Empire of Ivan (I-koku), the most heavily armed nation, and the Mizuho Imperial State (Kōkoku), the protagonist’s homeland, went to war. The Imperial State, still in its early stages and a small country, was rushing to build up its military for self-defence when this conflict erupted.

As a result, the Mizuho fleet was defeated in the initial engagement, leaving the army isolated at Ryōjun Fortress. The I-koku forces then launched a landing on the Imperial State’s homeland.

On the brink of collapse, the Mizuho Imperial State was saved in the homeland defence battle by the six military clans known as the Rokukyō Families, long rooted in the nation as a warrior aristocracy, and by the Walking Armours developed within the state itself.

The story begins three years later in the Mizuho Imperial State.

Note: The Walking Armours would later evolve into Walking Tanks, which became the standard weapon worldwide.
