## Description
In the years before Japan went to war and the world went to hell, amidst the deep snows of the mountainous north, there was a small hamlet known as Hitogata where by ancient custom the residents were prone to worship clay dolls. One night, during their festival, a woman was murdered, and the people came to speak of this as their god’s curse—divine retribution for trying to take the power of their god into their own hands.

**December 1957.**

It’s been nearly two years since the events of [Kara no Shoujo](/v810).

Reiji Tokisaka’s little sister Yukari saves a man from suicide—but that man is a victim of the curse’s return…

Reiji steps in to sever a cycle of obsession that has persisted since before the war—*but still struggles with his own obsession.*

Meanwhile, a cult rises from the ashes after six years of silence—but what are they planning?

### Masaki Tomoyuki (真崎 智之)
Masaki is an unemployed man whose life takes a dramatic turn. His story begins in Inokashira Park, where a failed suicide attempt leads him to cross paths with [url=/c4079]Tokisaka Yukari[/url], who finds and rescues him. 

Following his recovery in the hospital, he joins the Tokisaka Detective Agency as a temporary assistant. This opportunity arises partly because of his inability to fully use his left hand, a consequence of his suicide attempt. Furthermore, he feels a sense of obligation towards [url=/c4078]Tokisaka[/url], who not only saved his life but also gave him a blood transfusion.

Despite his grumblings about the demanding nature of the work, Masaki continues to assist [url=/c4078]Reiji[/url]. Lacking other pursuits in life and driven by his passive disposition, he sees this role as a path to follow for now. Masaki is known for his mature personality, which, depending on the situation, can be both an asset and a hindrance. He tends to maintain a distance from others, creating a barrier that defines his interactions and relationships.

### Tokisaka Reiji (時坂 玲人)
Reiji is a private investigator who specializes in solving grisly murder cases. He used to be a police detective, but after the tragic death of his fiancée, he left the force. Now, he runs a detective agency in Shinjuku, taking on some of the city's most brutal crimes. 

Reiji lives with his younger sister, Yukari, in Suginami, though he's rarely home because he's so focused on his work. Despite his tough exterior, Reiji is a bit of a history buff. When he's not on the job, he loves diving into history books, a passion he likely inherited from his late parents, who were both scholars. Their home is filled with a massive collection of historical books and documents.

In the first episode, Reiji goes undercover as a history teacher at Ouba Girls Academy to investigate a series of mysterious student disappearances, following a request from the school's vice-principal.

She’s nicknamed "Sacchan" by the boys and girls of the settlement when she meets them. 

Since she’s staying at the Shigusa Shrine instead of the settlement’s only hotel, the Futami Inn, there’s a rumor among the residents, beginning with Naori and Ayato, that she’s the "Miko" who manifests every dozen or so years.

She is also an academic like her brother, but with interests rooted in entomology. She keeps various insects inside her room. Don’t let your guard down around her, as some of her insect friends may turn up on the dinner table when you least expect them.

[spoiler]Yukari believes it would be difficult to make a living through art, and, unable to picture a clear future for herself, she is also troubled over what path to take.

### Torii Kohane (鳥居 小羽)

Nanako is positive and cheerful, with a soothing personality, and the people of the settlement adore her. 

She helps the all-men Kuroya family with housework sometimes, and they’re completely indebted to her. She’s happy that they treat her like family.
