### Kadokura Kou (門倉 甲)
The protagonist of the story. A free mercenary and an excellent Simulacrum pilot. Kou has been chasing after the the truth behind the incident known as "Gray Christmas", in which his town and school was razed, but loses parts of his memory at the beginning of the story.

### Kirishima Rain (桐島 レイン)
A mercenary and [url=/c4558]Kou[/url]'s subordinate.
Referring to Kou as Lieutenant, she serves as a guide to the amnesiac Kou. She acts as both his moral and physical support.

Even though she is polite and gentle, her gestures and expression often leave an impression of coldness.
She rarely expresses much emotion, but is merciless towards her enemies.

Her actions usually put Kou's safety as top priority, so much that she may even give up her own life for Kou.

She pilots the Simulacrum "Aigis Guard".
[spoiler]Her father is the head of GOAT's Asian division, Kirishima Isao. During her school days, she piloted the Simulacrum "Aigis".[/spoiler]

### Minazuki Makoto (水無月 真)
Makoto is one grade lower than Kou and is Sora's younger sister, usually being doted on by her. She and Sora both move into the Kisaragi Dormitory during their school days. 

She has a condition known as Cybernetics Ego Boundary Disorder, the same condition Kou's mother suffered from. This condition causes her to develop an abnormally deep connection to the virtual world, allowing her to read the thoughts of people on the Net while at the same time disclosing her own thoughts to those around her. In contrast, she is incapable of properly articulating herself outside of the Net, which once resulted in her being a common target of bullying.

[spoiler]She became completely mute in the real world after the events of Gray Christmas.[/spoiler]

### Minazuki Sora (水無月 空)

She often jumps to conclusions without analysing the situation, but is at heart an honest and good-natured girl with compassion for the weak. She does not get along well with Kou initially, though she eventually develops feelings for him.

[spoiler]During the events of Gray Christmas, Sora headed to the Drexler Organisation's headquarters to perform a favour for [url=/c4559]Kirishima Rain[/url], but was subsequently caught in and dissolved by the escaping Assembler nanovirus while in a call with Kou.[/spoiler]

A friend of Kou and his former dormitory-mate. Cheerful and sporty, she often attempted to flirt with Kou. She seemingly disappeared after the events of Gray Christmas.
[spoiler]In truth, she has become a member of GOAT, the global anti-AI special forces team, and her personality has become considerably embittered by the event which she perceives as a betrayal by their former lecturers.

### Noi (ノイ)
An unlicensed doctor who has taken up residence in the slums of Suzushiro City. She operates an adult goods shop as her front. ### Kirishima Isao (桐島 勲)
An officer in the counter-AI organisation GOAT (Global-union Observation Artificial-intelligence Team), and leader of the Asian division. His rank is Major General.

He was dispatched to Suzushiro City along with a contingent of GOAT troops to quell the growing unrest in the city. His personality is strict and obstinate, with a dignified and intimidating aura that befits a genuine military man. As a member of GOAT, he could be said to harbor anti-AI thoughts, and it would not be a stretch to say that he hated them. Though his surname makes it obvious that he is Rain's father, they are currently estranged due to an incident that occurred long ago.

He pilots the Simulacrum "Tyrant Gigas", and is highly skilled in using it, having once been fierce rivals with Kadokura Eiji in their youth.[/spoiler]

### Mayuzumi Yukie (黛 由紀江)
Often called "Mayucchi" for short, Yukie is a first year transfer student that has tasked herself with making one hundred friends. As the first daughter of the sword master [url=/c10406]Mayuzumi Taisei[/url], Yukie has not been exposed to many people and severely lacks social skills. This has led to her scaring people away with her extreme reactions and bashfulness. The fact that her cell phone strap (named Matsukaze) "talks" due to a skill in ventriloquism that she developed subconsciously doesn't help at all. She starts out with Matsukaze as her only friend, but [url=/c3886]Shouichi[/url] finds her interesting enough that he allows her to join the Kazama Family.

Yukie quickly proves herself to be a very capable girl, as she is a fast learner and excels at everything she puts effort into. She is also a very strong fighter, near if not on the same power level as Momoyo. Her main weakness is her bashfulness, which the members of the family try to help her overcome. In the end, Yukie becomes forced to part ways with Matsukaze in order to become a stronger person.

Aside from her skills with the sword, Yukie is designed around the yamato nadeshiko archetype, as demonstrated by her culinary and domestic skills as well as her willingness to do as [url=/c3885]Yamato[/url] says.
