## Description
Silent Hill: Play Novel is an adaptation of the original Silent Hill for Game Boy Advance in the form of visual novel. A visual novel is an interactive fiction game featuring mostly static graphics with text. At certain moments the game asks a player to make a choice between two or more possible variants which affect the following walkthrough. Such kind of games is very popular in Japan, however totally unpopular in the west, therefore Silent Hill: Play Novel was never released outside this country.

The game offered two scenarios: for Harry and Cybil (available after completing Harry's Scenario). Also there were four additional scenarios available for download, the main hero of which was the boy named Andy. However Konami ended the download service after a short time. Besides the narration the game features a couple of puzzles and multiple endings. After reaching the ending a player is awarded with Digital Trading Cards - 32 in total for all scenarios.

## Characters
### Andy Galvin
Andy is a seven-year-old boy who lives in the house next to Harry and Cheryl Mason. He is the main character of four scenarios that could be downloaded into the Silent Hill: Play Novel cartridge via cellphone. The four scenarios were named for each of the seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter.

Since the service no longer exists, the only information available on Andy is in the Play Novel Official Guidebook, which only gives details of the Spring Scenario. [SPOILER]It is possible that Andy dies, because he falls down a hole and is "unable to move", but this is not certain. The guidebook also contains two pictures from other scenarios, depicting Andy talking to Cheryl and seeing Alessa in the yard. For both Spring Scenario endings, the player receives the "First Sight" digital trading card. There are two other Andy digital trading cards: one called "Love", which depicts Andy and Alessa Gillespie, and one called "Escape", which shows Andy and Cheryl running off together.

Andy also appears in Cybil Bennett's scenario as the boy in the water. He fights with Cheryl on the aqueduct and falls in. Later, he is rescued by Cybil.[/spoiler]

### Cybil Bennett (シビル・ベネット)
Cybil Bennett is a police officer from Brahms, a town neighboring Silent Hill. She is sent to Silent Hill to investigate her precinct's lack of communication with the Silent Hill Police and is unwittingly drawn into its strange world.

[SPOILER]The Play Novel reveals more of Cybil's backstory. When Cybil was a little girl, her parents were murdered by an unidentified man. Cybil, who was hiding in a closet at the time, looked through the closet's crack and witnessed her parents being shot in the head. This incident largely impacted her future, which was the main influence on her becoming a police officer.[/SPOILER]

Harrold "Harry" Mason is one of the three protagonists of the game and the adoptive father of Cheryl. When Cheryl goes missing in the hellish town of Silent Hill, he takes it upon himself to rescue her.

[SPOILER]She is presented as the driving force and one of the most influential characters behind the events of the series. It is gradually revealed that Alessa had a very dark, violent, unfortunate, traumatic and abusive childhood. Alessa was bullied, beaten, tortured and set on fire as a child. Her burning and extreme suffering caused by her mother's religion, the Order, for the sake of rebirthing her god, served as a catalyst of the current warped and twisted state of Silent Hill's mysterious spiritual power.[/spoiler]

### Dahlia Gillespie
Dahlia Gillespie is a character in Silent Hill: Play Novel.

[SPOILER]She is one of the series' first antagonists and is responsible for most of the terrible events that have occurred in Silent Hill. Dahlia is the leader and a priestess of the Order, a cult that worships its own god and is devoted to engineering its birth. Although Dahlia envisions a "Paradise", the benevolence of the cult's deity is in doubt.

Dahlia is the abusive mother of Alessa Gillespie; she set Alessa on fire, gave her fourth-degree burns, and kept her in excruciating pain and suffering for seven years, all in the name of her God and religion. There are implications throughout the series that Dahlia would punch, physically abuse and lock Alessa in her attic for refusing to believe and pray to God in order to force her daughter into her religion.[/spoiler]

### Lisa Garland
Lisa Garland is a character in the Silent Hill: Play Novel.

[SPOILER]One of Lisa's duties was to take care of a patient, Alessa Gillespie. Alessa was severely burned in a fire as a little girl and fully covered in third/fourth degree burns as a result of her mother, Dahlia Gillespie, and her extreme devotion to her religion and god. Alessa's body was covered in burn wounds which would not heal and were always oozing blood and pus, requiring frequent bandaging. Lisa did not know what was keeping the girl alive (the Book of Lost Memories reveals Dahlia cast a magical incantation on her daughter, in addition to the god in Alessa's womb protecting her body). The ordeal of constantly replacing the bandages took a toll on Lisa's mental health and sanity. Alessa was hidden in the hospital basement for about seven years.

Lisa wanted to leave Alchemilla and quit nursing Alessa because she eventually grew sick of it. However, Kaufmann refused to allow her and threatened to cut off her supply of PTV, which led to arguing and fighting between the two. He apparently did cut off Lisa's supply, and Lisa apparently began to hallucinate insects and blood and pus flowing from a faucet as a form of withdrawal symptom.

### Michael Kaufmann
Dr. Michael Kaufmann is a character in Silent Hill: Play Novel.

He is the director of Alchemilla Hospital located in Central Silent Hill. While he refers to himself as someone who works at the hospital, Dr. Michael Kaufmann is the director of the medical staff at Alchemilla Hospital.

[SPOILER]While at first seeming like a mere civilian, he is a close associate of Dahlia Gillespie and the Order. Kaufmann has an alliance with her centered around drugs. Kaufmann arranged Alessa Gillespie's medical care after her immolation at the age of seven and oversaw her nursing. Kaufmann dealt the hallucinogen PTV, derived from a local plant called White Claudia. Kaufmann worked alongside his colleague, Norman Young, selling PTV and receiving a considerable profit in the process.

The Order was responsible for the dispersion to tourists as well as Lisa Garland, one of Kaufmann's nurses. Lisa was forced to care for Alessa in the hospital basement against her will, under threat of drug withdrawal. During the introduction sequence of Silent Hill, Lisa is shown arguing with Kaufmann, after he initially tries to grasp her arm as she walks away.
