In modern times, in a certain provincial city---
Tachibana Kirie, daughter of the chief priest at Oyama Shrine, and Kurahashi Makoto, who's training as a live-in apprentice at the same shrine, find themselves facing a bizarre phenomenon.
People are suddenly losing consciousness and not waking up - an unexplained "Sleeping Sickness." Even Kirie's parents have fallen victim to this strange illness spreading through town.
By chance, Kirie and Makoto meet a black fuzzy ball that calls itself a god, who informs them the "Sleeping Sickness" is the work of beings from the hidden world - youkai, gods, and other supernatural entities.
The only ones who can oppose these beings are onmyouji with demon-quelling powers.
Whether by fate or coincidence, Kirie - who possesses these powers - hesitates but ultimately resolves to fight.
