## Description
Adastra is a romance visual novel with a whole bunch of sci-fi and political intrigue mixed in. You'll experience the perils of navigating an empire in turmoil while deciding who you should and who you definitely shouldn't trust.

It all starts while you're having the time of your life in Rome on a study abroad program. Just as you're settling in, you're suddenly abducted by an alien. What does he want from you? Well, he doesn't seem to want to tell you, and before you know it, you're millions of miles away from Earth on your way to an empire you know nothing about.

It's a climate of turncoats and backstabbers, and you start to wonder if the alien that abducted you is the one person you can trust the most.

## Characters
### Marco
A human who is abducted by Amicus while studying abroad in Rome. Stranded on Adastra until the imperial throne is properly filled, he adopts the role of Amicus's semi-intelligent pet for his own protection.

He is one of the first friends Marco makes on Adastra and the first one to realize that Marco is not what Amicus says he is.

### Amicus
The eldest son of the late emperor of Adastra and contestant for the now-vacant imperial throne. Visits Earth with the intent to take a human as his pet, but learns only after kidnapping Marco that humans are, in fact, highly intelligent, and that he has made unauthorized first contact with an alien species in grave violation of galactic law.
With only enough fuel in his technologically enigmatic Parental spaceship to make the return trip to his home planet, Amicus promises to return Marco to his home after he regains access to the Parents' technology by becoming the rightful emperor of Adastra.

[spoiler]Was publicly outed as a so-called "tail-raiser" (a slur for gay men on Adastra) at age 18 and continues to be followed by that reputation.[/spoiler]

Would normally be second to his older brother in the line of succession, but is more popular with the public, spurring Cato to instead stage a competition between the two.

Has an impressive and prestigious pet, Alexios, motivating Amicus to acquire a similarly impressive human pet.

[spoiler]He is secretly in an intimate physical relationship with Alexios, later revealed to be romantic.
He suffers from self-hatred and an inferiority complex due to his bone disease and to neglect by his late father.[/spoiler]

Though Amicus, the late emperor's eldest son, would normally ascend to the throne by default, Cato proposes a competition between the two brothers instead, due to Cassius's higher popularity.

[spoiler]A veteran of the wolves' most recent war with the Khemians, he harbors an intense hatred of the jackals. Privately supports Cassius's claim to the throne, both because he can easily control Cassius and because of their shared isolationist foreign policy views, especially with regard to Adastran-Khemian relations.[/spoiler]

[spoiler]Despite being the second-born son of the Pharaoh, he lives in the shadow of both his older brother and his two younger sisters. He wants to secure the Adastran-Khemian alliance primarily because it is a ostensibly impossible task assigned to him by his family and he wishes to prove himself by accomplishing it against all odds. This is why he privately supports Amicus' claim to the throne and secretly works with Virginia in Amicus' interest.[/spoiler]

### Virginia
Amicus and Cassius's older sister.
