## Description
Taking place immediately after "No Regrets", William is freed from The Council's "Happy Glowstick Funtime Re-education Camp" by some mysterious friends.

Meanwhile, Grendel's mother comes across some unwanted plans regarding the demise of the protagonist and sets out to stop it. Unfortunately though, she needs the help of the protagonist

As the years roll by, William and his friends eventually launch an attack, cumulating in the death of Grendel's father.

With The Council's power systems failing, the protagonist is forced into destroying The Council Of The Unseen. However, further surprises await inside...

## Characters
### Protagonist
The protagonist is a former software developer at an ailing games company. After his/her home town suffers a devastating terrorist attack, he/she is more or less blackmailed into joining The Phoenix Custodians, under the guise of being patriotic.

Until other members of the Custodians, she/he cares deeply about the welfare of any opponents captures, and will often try to befriend them in order to gain any useful information. This doesn't endear him/her to almost everyone else, who regard the protagonist as an overbearing sanctimonious annoying do-gooder.

This trait was evident during training and caused him/her to be assigned the mission to stop Grendel and tower, as it was deemed a suicide mission for the protagonist.

The protagonist signed Grendel's "Friendship Agreement" more out of pity than anything else, and he/she realised that Grendel is lonely and doesn't have anyone to look up to. Unfortunately, not paying that much attention of what was written would soon be his/her downfall, as Grendel immediately latches onto her new "Best Friend".

The protagonist is hoping (somewhat naively) to be able to get Grendel to see reason and leave The Council before she gets too deep into the organisation and ruins her life. Unlike Grendel, he/she realises how much danger she could face in her missions.

The protagonist's problems don’t end with Grendel, her mother or The Unseen in general. His/her organisation "The Phoenix Custodians" is another source of trouble as he/she has to deal with fellow agents who would have no compulsion about killing Unseen people on sight; keeping his/her friendship with Grendel a secret and a boss who is indifferent to him/her and is either constantly sexually harassing her (or practically ignoring him).

Add to the mix an inquisitive personal assistant with her own agena for the protagonist, and controlling parents, the protagonist's life is practically not his/her own.

Continually fails his/her "Interrogation Exam", which is designed to gauge how ruthlessly an agent can be during interrogations.

- **Gender:** Female
- **Alias:** Footsie McFootstool
- **Engages in:** Mass Murder, Unarmed Fighting
- **Role:** Office Worker, Spy
- **Subject of:** Sexual Harassment

### Grendel Jinx
Grendel Jinx was bought up in a family who believed the strong should rule over the weak. Embracing this creed early on in her life, and destined to become second in command of The Council Of The Unseen, she was destined for greatness, ruling the world with an iron fist and mercilessly crushing any dissent.

At least that's what her parents expected.

Unfortunately, reality is rather different. Whilst Grendel is megalomaniacal, her ideas for world domination are inept at best and at worst would cost her her life. Realising this, she aims to get the protagonist to join her, and together they would rule over everyone.

Unfortunately for her, the protagonist isn't interested in anything like that.

Grendel is a chronic kleptomaniac, with the protagonist a constant target. The protagonist, having signed (having not reading it properly) an extremely one-side "Friendship Agreement", Grendel regards anything and everything the protagonist owns as her own- including all money and cars.

Grendel can be extremely clever and manipulative when needed. She can speak multiple languages (Japanese being one as that she can watch her favourite anime as it's meant to be - without subtitles), and is an expert in most of hand-to-hand combat as well trained in driving or flying most vehicles

She expects to be constantly looked after by the protagonist, no matter the time of day.

Grendel does like the protagonist and will stop at nothing to force him/her to join The Unseen - even if it means putting the protagonist's life in danger.

She has no problem with blackmailing all and sundry (again, the protagonist being a frequent target), having learnt the art from her mother.

Whilst Grendel is extremely wealthy (she has financial interests in both legal and illegal entities), she is also prone to falling for financial scams. Although she has a $1 million weekly allowance; personal chef and a whole slew of assistants, the protagonist surmises that she is extremely lonely.

Hated both internally and externally due to her general attitude, ineptitude and position, she has few friends, and despite being class representative, she is generally scorned and bullied. Her father, takes little interest in helping her, believing it will toughen her up.

She is afraid of aliens taking over the world before she does. This came about from watching an age-inappropriate late-night sci-fi horror film.

Grendel's favourite TV program is the ultra-violent anime "Dr Not-Nice Against The World", and believes it is the best program ever made. Regularly watches marathon showings of it.

### Grendel's Father
Co-founder of The Council Of The Unseen, along with his wife, with a simple mission : take over the world.

Originally hailing from the newspaper world, he was the victim of numerous witchhunts over his investigative journalism, which made him cynical and bitter.

With agents in every corner of the world, The Council has infiltrated almost all governmental and financial institutions, quietly changing things behind the scenes and mostly without anyone knowing.

The Council don't have it all their own way. Rival organisations are constantly trying to undermine missions, whilst The Phoenix Custodians (and allies) try to stop them as well.
And that doesn't take into account internal rivalries and jealousies, all of which undermine The Council's ability to function properly.

Frederick deals with internal dissent the only way he knows : Sends the miscreants to the "Happy Glowstick Funtime Re-education Camp". Kept secret from almost everyone, including his wife, it's the subject of much speculation and rumours.

Frederick believes holidays should be earned, and generally views all Grendels efforts as incompetent, so she generally has to clean the top ten floors of their base come Christmas time. He also has no problem throwing Grendel in one of the underground prisons, if he feels her loyalty wavers at any point.

Deems the protagonist saving Grendel from the exploding tower (WTC 2/2) as a sign of weakness on Grendel's behalf, and despite returning Grendel safely after defeating the "Company of Ibauric", still mercilessly punishes the protagonist, and starts planning for his/her demise.

- **Gender:** Male
- **Alias:** Dad, Frederick Jinx
- **Engages in:** Cooking, Torture

### Grendel's Mother
A former cat burglar, Abigail met her future husband when she got stuck on a window sill whilst trying to escape his home.

Abigail has no doubts about Grendel's choice of friend/partner/footstool and actively works to bring the two together, which often causes the protagonist no end of problems. She also has another reason for trying to get the protagonist to join The Council : Abigail has a nagging feeling that the current timeline is wrong, and that the protagonist has been working for her at some point.

Whilst she likes protagonist (and has no problem showing it), she also has very willing to blackmail the him/her or use him/her as a guinea pig for any drugs that need testing. As the latter usually causes problems, she is, unlike Grendel, quite willing to compensate the protagonist for the trouble caused.

The relationship between Abigail and the protagonist can be rather testy, but Abigail just shrugs it off, as she knows how much trouble Grendel and herself can cause.

She is more than willing to go behind her husband's back in order make Grendel happy. This usually involves planning a secret birthday or Christmas event - often with the protagonist's help.

Like her husband, she is often away for long periods of time on various missions and such, and usually asks the protagonist to look after Grendel. This is also done to try and get them together - professionally at least, although Abigail certainly wouldn't mind if things went further.

Tries to prevent Misericordia doing anything to her victims, but usually without success. Won't leave due to the amount of enemies that the two of them have, as well as the fact that she feels that she belongs at Misericordias side.

Terrified of the protagonist, mainly due to believing all the rumours about him, which doesn't help when they first meet.

Grendel's long-suffering dogs-body. Given all the tasks that Grendel doesn't want (or can't) do - which means Katherine usually has to all work herself.

- **Gender:** Female
- **Role:** Servant, Scientist
- **Engages in:** Revenge, Time Travel

### Lorinda Ella
Lorinda Ella is the protagonist’s secretary as well as main interrogator, a job she relishes with sadistic glee, much to the protagonist’s annoyance, and who views all enemies as nothing but filth to be disposed of as quickly as possible,

This attitude means that Lorinda and the protagonist are frequently arguing over her actions, which frequently frustrates Lorinda, as it means it means time wasting, when she could be beating a prisoner to within an inch of his/her life.

Lorinda generally sees the protagonist as nothing more than an inept do-gooder, and was disappointed to be teamed up with such a person.

Her dislike for the protagonist extends to a controlling behaviour in the guise of “personal safety” - preventing the protagonist from going to certain locations or meeting people.

She also tries to kill the protagonist by sending him/her off on a mission whilst withholding or ignoring information (as with Relentless Protagonist).

Whilst the protagonist can reprimand Lorinda for any misdeeds, that’s all that can be done. Lorinda is regarded as indispensable, whilst the protagonist isn’t - a point that Lorinda likes to crow about whenever she can.

Lorinda only joined The Phoenix Custodians (and only then by illicit means) in order to seek revenge again The Council for the murder of her father during a teen skiing holiday. She had hoped to find a boss sympathetic to her ideals, but unfortunately, ended up working for the protagonist.

Over time she is slowly and quietly gathering information that proves that the protagonist is at worst working for The Council Of The Unseen or at best, colluding with them

- **Subject of:** Accident, Homicide
- **Personality:** Sadist

### Miss Potts
Originally hailing from the Strategy and Planning department of The Council, she was asked to do some teaching, which she agreed to, if somewhat reluctantly.

- **Gender:** Female

### Engineering Department Head
Head of the Council's Engineering Department, and thus responsible for keeping all the computer systems running across all Council worldwide sites.

The Countess Fenella of Bergen came from an aristocratic Germanic family that dabbled in low-level, yet highly lucrative criminality. The Countess saw from a young age what money could do and buy, but also its limits. Having servants to do everything for her, the Countess grew increasingly restless as she grew older.

Flying through school with top marks, she entered a prestigious German university under a false name, where she studied computer science, bioengineering, chemistry, and, in particular, AI development.

She even completed a doctorate on the theoretical merging of biological material and silicon to create a system that would be astronomically faster than current machines.

After years of studying, she set to work trying to find a legal job, despite her parents' desire for her to continue the family “business”. Unfortunately, her time spent looking for work came to nothing - she was either regarded as “too overqualified” or her heritage scared people off. Eventually, much to her parents' delight, she ended up working for her parents.

The Countess quickly discovered a whole raft of inefficiencies and problems - the least of which was their computer systems. Initially, dismissive of the recommendations The Countess presented to them, her parents' views quickly changed when The Countess implemented her recommendations anyway. Soon, her parents were running a far more efficient and effective “business”, which in turn caught The Council's eye. Being a fairly new organisation at the time, Abigail couldn't expend resources investigating further, and so The Council moved on to other priorities.

After a few years, the Countess gets bored again and sets out to challenge herself: the complete overthrow of a corrupt African country. She makes her choice of country not for any humanitarian or ethical concern, but for the challenge it would bring.

Coincidentally, Abigail was also in the country, looking to expand The Council's presence.

Initially, everything went well for the Countess; however, one thing that she didn't realise was that who you try and blackmail may not be whi you think they are.

Betrayed, beaten, harshly interrogated and then thrown into prison, the Countess was due to be executed the following day.

Abigail hears of the Countess and her supposed fate during a conversation with the Countess’s former blackmailer. Abigail quickly realises the potential a rescued Countess could be - a possible new recruit at best or perhaps some control over the Bergen family at worst.

Abigail quickly creates a plan to not only rescue the Countess, but to frame the former blackmailed person for it as well, enabling Abigail to get a much stronger foothold in the country to boot.

However, the rescue mission didn't quite go as planned, and it took a lot of fighting between a badly injured Countess and Abigail's poisoned needles and her hand-to-hand combat skills before they were free from the prison complex and flying back to the US.

Abigail asks the Countess why she was trying to do, to which she replies that she wanted to take over a country as she was bored.

Abigail states that she can give the Countess all the excitement she could ever want by using her skills to create a new semi-organic computer system for The Council - worldwide. Abigail explains what the Council is for, and whilst the Countess is sceptical that Abigail can achieve it, she is on board with designing a new computer system. The Countess is also more than willing to be proven wrong.

Abigail states that she’ll have almost unlimited money but a small team at the moment, and she’ll have to visit all Council places to install everything, which could mean trouble from the Council’s opponents, the Phoenix Custodians. However, the Countess doesn't mind - she’s up for a challenge, although she doesn't intend to stay beyond the time it takes to get everything working.

Abigail laughs and says she hears that a lot, but no one has ever left by then.

15 or so years later, the Countess is still working for The Council, putting up with Abigail's flirting but enjoying every moment of her time at the organisation.

The Countess is the engineer's real name. She uses Giovannetta Sposenfiaten after Abigail and herself set an elaborate, yet failed, trap.

- **Gender:** Female
- **Aliases:** Countess Fenella of Bergen, Giovannetta Sposenfiaten
- **Role:** Engineer
- **Engages in:** Computering
