[SPOILER]
Yujin shared a flat with London's soon-to-be legendary detective, Herlock Sholmes, eventually becoming his investigative partner.

When the secret trial for the Professor was held, Mikotoba took part in the autopsy of Klint van Zieks as first assistant and was responsible for writing the autopsy report. Though Mikotoba had qualms about the findings of the autopsy, he wrote down John Wilson's findings dutifully - such as the discovery of Genshin Asogi's ring in the stomach of Klint van Zieks by Wilson. The findings in this autopsy were later used to convict Genshin Asogi as the Professor.

Nine months after John Wilson's death, Mikotoba received a letter from Sholmes about the "Case of the Haunted Lodging", describing how at the end of the case the bloodied dog collar worn by Klint van Zieks' bloodhound Balmung was found in a thief's stash. Mikotoba also read the reports penned by returning student Soseki Natsume of his times in Great Britain, which also covered the case. This prompted Mikotoba to visit Natsume and directly speak to him about what he had seen. Remembering that Susato saw the box containing the manuscript of the Hound of Baskerville, Iris' unpublished novel which almost completely described the truth behind the Professor Killings, Mikotoba grew worried that his daughter would uncover the truth before it was ready to come out. In order to postpone the discovery of the truth, Mikotoba sent a telegram to Susato, which claimed that he had suddenly fallen ill with a grave illness and needed Susato to immediately return to Japan.

The man was forced to hide his identity because he was Japanese, yet Tusspells took a mold of his face for the "Hall of Terror" display of her future wax museum. After having trouble with the jaw, she realized that the man wasn't actually executed. The gravekeeper notified the chief justice, Mael Stronghart, about her who made a deal with her to allow a wax professor if she never took off the metal mask, which can only be opened with a key, nor reveal any of this to anyone. She also read a Daily Circus newspaper article about a grave robber named Enoch Drebber encountering the Professor rising from his grave. So she went to Drebber at the London University lab, heard about what happened from him, and paid him five pounds to take a wax mold of him for the display as well as the camera he had with him.

### Courtney Sithe (コートニー・シス)
Doctor Courtney Sithe was the newly-established head coroner of Scotland Yard.

[SPOILER]
She had actually been Asman's true killer, and turned what had ended in an attempted murder into a successful one. Defeated, Sithe slammed her fist on the witness stand, while telling those present that they had no idea what it was like protecting the Professor case all those years. She, along with Drebber, were arrested and sent to prison. Likely as a result of her sensitive knowledge of the Professor incident, Sithe was forbidden from having visitors. This ban was later lifted after the entire truth of the Professor case surfaced.

Courtney Sithe, then known under the surname Stevens, was once the second assistant of Doctor John Wilson, along with exchange student Yujin Mikotoba. The two were present during the autopsy of Klint van Zieks, the supposed final victim of the infamous "Professor." When neither Mikotoba or Stevens were watching, Wilson supposedly found the ring of Genshin Asogi in the victim's stomach; in truth, this was a forgery to frame Asogi and protect the identity of the true Professor, Klint. Though Mikotoba had some reservations, the ring was used as decisive evidence to arrest Asogi.

### Enoch Drebber (イーノック・ドレッバー)
Enoch Drebber was a mysterious engineer whose name was known in the science and magician communities of London. He was a witness during Odie Asman's murder trial.
[SPOILER]
Enoch Drebber was living and studying at London University to become a scientist, and was on the path to achieving that goal. However, he was also a member of The Repurposers, a small group who grave-robbed Lowgate Cemetery to dig up freshly-buried prisoners who were executed from the nearby Barclay Prison and sold them in order to make a living. To record information about the graves he robbed, he always brought a camera with him. One night, he dug up the grave of Genshin Asogi, the man thought to be a dangerous serial killer known as the Professor. However, when he opened the coffin he found that the man was well and moving, almost as if he had come back to life.

When the figure was shot dead by someone behind Drebber, he got covered in blood and fled in terror, suffering from canities subita likely as a result of that experience. Unbeknownst to Drebber, the man was actually framed and buried alive. Two men were going to secretly send him home to Japan, but since Drebber dug him out first, one of them shot the man to protect the secret of the Professor’s identity.

Drebber told many outlets about the event, but nobody believed him since the man was now dead. However, a Daily Circus newspaper journalist, Odie Asman, published an article with his name in it. This resulted in him being exposed as a grave robber, forcing him to leave school and give up his promising career as a scientist. The articles went on to become very popular among the people of London.

Drebber was later approached by Esmeralda Tusspells, who read the Daily Circus article and got a mold of the deceased Professor, to take a wax mold of his face for her "Hall of Terror" display of the rising Professor in her wax museum. He also sold her his camera because he had no intention of returning to Lowgate Cemetery. The camera was used for the exhibit as well. Embittered, Drebber became a con man who would build fake inventions for grant money, using his extensive knowledge of stage magic to sell his machines' efficacy long enough to be given money to "develop" them.

One day, Asman showed up to Enoch Drebber's new factory. He didn’t actually remember Drebber as a subject of his article and instead came to him as a creator and "swindler". Asman had just approached a young scientist by the name of Albert Harebrayne about his theory on teleportation and wanted Drebber to build a machine for him with the goal of getting money from the government.

Unknown to Asman, Drebber noticed an article in the newspaper he was holding about the creation of a new forensic investigation unit with coroner Courtney Sithe at the head, as Asman was blackmailing Sithe as well. Drebber decided to recruit Sithe and kill Asman for ruining his chances of becoming a scientist, as well as sabotage the career of Harebrayne, who he looked upon as a pseudo-scientist who demeaned his profession.

After the accident, Sithe found the wax model in the cage that fell through the Crystal Tower, along with a letter from someone who "knows the truth about 10 years ago", instructing her to set up the crime scene as detailed by said letter. Sithe did so but, unbeknownst to Drebber, she went the underside of the machine and into the shaft instead. Drebber intended for the fall to kill Asman, but he survived. However, just as he was getting out of the cage, Courtney Sithe stabbed him with Harebrayne's screwdriver, getting her own revenge.

### Jigoku Seishirou (慈獄 政士郎)
Seishiro Jigoku was a Japanese judge during the Meiji period. He presided over Ryunosuke Naruhodo's trial for the murder of John Wilson.
[SPOILER]
Sixteen years before the game's events, Seishiro Jigoku, along with fellow students Genshin Asogi and Yujin Mikotoba, traveled to Great Britain as part of an international exchange program.

The night of Asogi's fake execution, Stronghart and Jigoku went to Lowgate Cemetery to retrieve Asogi from his coffin. As they approached the plot where Asogi was buried, they encountered an unforeseen obstacle: Enoch Drebber, a local university student, who had been harvesting recently buried corpses from nearby cemeteries in order to sell them to hospitals for study.

That night, Drebber dug up the plot in which Asogi had been buried, which caused him to witness what appeared to be Asogi rising from the dead. This terrified Stronghart: Drebber would almost certainly inform other people of what he had seen, endangering their secret operation and potentially informing all of London that Asogi had never died.

With no choice but murder to conceal the secret, Stronghart coerced Jigoku into murdering his friend. Jigoku then shot Asogi in the chest, killing him and sending him falling back into his grave, which splattered blood all over Drebber and his camera. After Drebber fled in fear, Stronghart and Jigoku reburied Asogi and left the scene.

Come back to the present, Seishiro Jigoku finally came up with a way to kill Tobias Gregson himself. He contacted Mael Stronghart to give Gregson a fake mission to kill Jigoku himself under the pretense that it was in line with the "Reaper's curse": after all, Jigoku was acquitted in his trial ten years ago, which had indeed been presided over by Barok van Zieks.

The supposed assassination of Jigoku would take place on the last day of October aboard the SS Grouse as it headed for France, while Jigoku was aboard heading to the international scientific investigation symposium representing Japan. Kazuma Asogi was sent with Gregson as Jigoku's purported assassin, but ultimately did not carry out the deed, leaving Gregson no choice but to attempt the murder himself.

When Jigoku returned to his room at 9 PM, he found Gregson there with his gun. He performed an ippon seoi nage on Gregson, which choked and knocked him unconscious. As first-class cabins are surrounded by guards, he decided to wait until the emergency drill later that evening to do the final deed via strangling.

Unfortunately, just as that time arrived, Gregson woke up and started attacking Jigoku in a frenzy. In a moment of panic, Jigoku drew the gun the English government had given him in the exchange program sixteen years ago, and shot Gregson, killing him.

### Tobias Gregson (トビアス・グレグソン)
Tobias Gregson was a Scotland Yard detective working in London during Ryunosuke Naruhodo's time in England. Due to his role in a certain case, Gregson became known as a legendary detective. His favorite food was fish and chips which he was almost never seen without.

[SPOILER]
Tobias Gregson helped Mael Stronghart frame Genshin Asogi for being the Professor, to which he opposed at first, until Stronghart convinced him that this would be necessary to prevent Genshin from claiming any more victims, as Gregson mistakenly believed Genshin was the Professor. He hired a group of mercenaries to attack Genshin, stealing his trademark ring. Then, with Stronghart's help, Gregson would argue for Klint van Zieks' autopsy report, which would not normally be done to a noble in the House of Lords.

After that, he helped Stronghart spread the "Reaper of the Bailey" conspiracy. During this time, Gregson would investigate guilty defendants prosecuted under Klint's younger brother Barok who twisted their own trials to escape justice, and come up with the best ways for Britain's notorious assassin, Asa Shinn, to eliminate them.

Gregson also took interest in Daley Vigil, a former employee from Barclay Prison who was terminated following complications arising from the Professor case, and was masquerading as a street vendor named "Hugh Boone". To that end, Gregson paid Vigil to use his ID and make a public scene wherever he was directed, claiming the detective was there to investigate, in order to mask his movements around London. During that time, Gregson also grew close to Iris Wilson for helping further bolster his public reputation through her stories, to the point that he also became compliant to her own demands.

Eventually, Stronghart decided that Gregson knew too much about Klint's autopsy and his own past, so to eliminate Gregson, he had Genshin's son, Kazuma, kill him. Since by that point a treaty had been made between Japan and England, Stronghart knew if Kazuma was fully exposed of killing Gregson, England would have difficulty arresting the young Japanese man. Unfortunately, Stronghart's plan went wrong as Kazuma was knocked out and presumably killed by Nikolina Pavlova, sparing Gregson for some time.

While Gregson sent Vigil out to be a decoy with the "Red-Headed League", a small-time scam of Fabien de Rousseau and Peppino de Rossi, he was given a "Reaper” mission for October 31st aboard the SS Grouse as it headed for France. The target was Seishiro Jigoku, who was put on trial ten years ago when he made insulting remarks while trying to save Genshin Asogi.

Since Asa Shinn was killed, the assassin that would go with him was Kazuma Asogi. Before he left his secret room to go there, he spoke fondly of Lestrade, and left her his "detective spirit".

While in Seishiro Jigoku's cabin on board the Grouse, Gregson learns that Kazuma is Genshin's son. He tells him that he believes that his father was the Professor even now but didn't have enough evidence to prove it back then. He said he just worked as the mission instructed for the British Empire. But Gregson refused to say exactly what he did, even if it meant his death. This caused Kazuma to furiously draw his sword and swing, not hurting the detective but chipping Karuma on Gregson's trunk.

Then Kazuma decided to leave, disembarking in Dunkirk, France to stay the night, so Gregson decided to kill Jigoku all by himself. But Jigoku didn't know Kazuma Asogi was alive and had already decided to kill Gregson on his own to complete the assassination exchange program. The "Reaper" mission assigned to Gregson was a fake asked by Jigoku himself. When Jigoku returned to his room, he found Gregson there.

He choked Gregson, knocking him unconscious before the other could shoot him. As first-class cabins are surrounded by guards, Jigoku decided to wait until the emergency drill later that evening to strangle him to death. Unfortunately, just as that time arrived, Gregson woke up and started attacking Jigoku in a frenzy. In a moment of panic, Jigoku used the gun the English government had given him in the exchange program sixteen years ago and shot Tobias Gregson, killing him instantly.

### Viridian Green (ビリジアン・グリーン)
Olive Green was an aspiring artist studying at the Thorndyke Academy of Fine Arts. She was the victim of a nonfatal attack in Ryunosuke Naruhodo's second case during his time in London.

[SPOILER]
Prior to Soseki Natsume moving into the Garridebs' complex, Olive Green was enrolled in the Thorndyke Academy of Fine Arts. She was also engaged to the previous owner of that flat, a fellow student named Duncan Ross. After a series of gas leaks began occurring in his flat, Green begged him to move out.

Ross assured her that he would, but ended up dying due to gasoline asphyxiation before he could, leaving Green overcome with grief. She regretted not trying to persuade him hard, and she dropped out of the school and would walk by Briar Road, where Ross had died, many times.

One day, she saw Natsume come out of the complex and followed him to the borscht shop. He told her he had complained to the owner about how he often woke up the with the gas stove turned off and the room filled with gas, leaving him feeling like he was being strangled. Although she initially thought of Ross' death as an accident, she became suspicious of the other tenant, William Shamspeare, as she had heard that blowing with considerable force into a gas pipe would extinguish all flames in another room, resulting in a gas leak. She formulated a plan to confirm her suspicions.

After purchasing a bottle of strychnine off the black market, she anonymously sent Shamspeare a note that read: "I have information regarding the death of Duncan Ross. Come to The Slug and Salad, on Briar Road at 5 p.m. on 17th. Don't tell anybody else about this letter or the meeting. It is a matter of utmost importance." On that day and after Shamspeare had left his bedroom, she picked his lock using a wire and some turpentine (a trick her late lover had shown her), and coated the lamp line with the strychnine.

That way, if Shamspeare tried blowing into the pipe again, he would poison himself as punishment and would prove he had been blowing into the pipe. If he was really innocent, nothing would happen, but she prayed that he would be poisoned.

She also found a hiding place under a set of loose floorboards, which contained a tin box with a key and a newspaper. Thinking the key was valuable, she put it on like a necklace.

Naruhodo interrogated her for a few minutes before he was called away, as Shamspeare had finally fallen victim to the strychnine. However, it soon transpired that he had actually survived, and had accused Natsume of the crime.

After the first day of the ensuing trial, Green was to be discharged by her doctor. Shamspeare stumbled into her room and commented on her painting, making her feel worse. With her mind racing, she attempted suicide by drinking the remaining strychnine from her bottle, but was interrupted by Naruhodo, Mikotoba, and Sholmes, who were all visiting her again.

She was especially shocked to hear that the three had learned of her connection to Ross, causing the bottle to fall over and spill the strychnine. A foraging mouse then consumed the strychnine and died instead, thus causing Sholmes to deduce her suicide attempt and confiscate the bottle from her.

Later, Naruhodo called her as a witness in the trial's second day. Though the true extent of Green's crimes were exposed, it was also thanks to Green's help that Naruhodo was able to also expose the true extent of Shamspeare's crimes. Green would have to face charges for her attempted murder, but she nonetheless thanked Naruhodo for finally revealing the truth behind the "cursed lodgings" mystery, thus properly avenging her fiancé's death.

### William Petency (ウイリアム・ペテンシー)
William Shamspeare is a fancily-dressed man who, despite his appearance, is actually unemployed and very poor.
[SPOILER]

Following the conclusion of the trial regarding the stabbing on Briar Road, Shamspeare had another literary debate with Natsume. The two then had a jujitsu battle with Shamspeare dressed as Romeo and Natsume dressed as Juliet, which Natsume won. After Natsume returned to his flat, Shamspeare attempted to once again blow into the gas pipe to oust Natsume, using the tea Natsume had given him to produce his counterfeit coins for his gas meter. However, he soon fell victim to the strychnine Green had applied to the pipe's mouth four days earlier, falling into a coma.

He was later found in his comatose state when Natsume broke his door open, and though initially believed to be dead, after it was learned that he survived his poisoning, he was taken to St. Bartholomew Hospital for further treatment. Thinking Natsume responsible for his poisoning by way of his tea, while also plotting to get the treasure in his room, Shamspeare accused Natsume of attempted murder. However, Naruhodo soon exposed his fraudulent activities on the first day, and later exposed his culpability in Ross's death during the second day. After Shamspeare was forced to confess to everything he had done, Green reminded him that he still deserved punishment for his crimes, and he was soon arrested.

### Asogi Genshin (亜双義 玄真)
Genshin Asogi was a Japanese exchange student along with Yujin Mikotoba and Seishiro Jigoku ten years before Ryunosuke Naruhodo's arrival in London. He is the father of Kazuma Asogi.

[SPOILER]
One day Asogi discovered that Klint was living a double life. He was secretly the capital's notorious serial killer, known as the Professor, and was responsible for the deaths of four of Great Britain's nobles.

Unable to resolve the problem via legal routes, Asogi took matters into his own hands and directly confronted Klint over his crimes. This confrontation pushed Klint to confess to Asogi that he was indeed the Professor. With this confession heard, Asogi made a proposal to Klint to allow his friend to experience an honorable death: that they duel to the death with swords.

Klint accepted Asogi's proposal with two conditions: that he be allowed to write a last will and testament confessing his crimes, and that Asogi would ensure protection for Klint’s pregnant wife as well as his unborn child. Upon mutual agreement of these conditions Asogi and Klint dueled, with Asogi reigning supreme. Afterwards, Asogi fled from the scene and was witnessed by a number of servants working for Klint, but there was not enough evidence to prove that he was responsible for Klint's death.

Klint's blackmailer, Stronghart, wanted to avoid people discovering the identity of the Professor (and subsequently, his own role in The Professor's murders) at all costs. Having become privy to the identity of The Professor, Asogi became a threat to Stronghart. To this end, Stronghart orchestrated a devious plan.

Stronghart coerced several people into helping him frame Asogi and make him appear to be The Professor. Tobias Gregson was coerced into ordering thugs to attack Asogi. These thugs attacked Asogi while he was outside with Barok van Zieks. Concealing that their true target was Asogi by pretending that their target was Barok, the thugs stole Asogi's trademark ring from him.

With this fabricated evidence, his ring, along with the previous witness testimonies, Stronghart managed to convince all relevant authorities that not only was Asogi responsible for the death of Klint, but was in actuality the notorious serial killer "The Professor" responsible for the deaths of four other nobles before Klint. In spite of Asogi not possessing The Professor's trademark weapon, he was arrested and detained as a prime suspect for The Professor.

After smuggling Asogi out of prison, initially the plan was to secretly retrieve Asogi from his grave in Lowgate Cemetery. Stronghart recruited Asogi's fellow student, Seishiro Jigoku, for the task by promising to help Jigoku secure the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs back in Japan. However, catastrophe would strike following an unforeseen event. Enoch Drebber, a local university student studying science, came to Lowgate Cemetry seeking fresh corpses to study.

Drebber selected the plot in which Asogi was located, unearthing him. He then witnessed Asogi 'rising from his grave'. Soon thereafter, Stronghart and Jigoku showed up to the grave, having discovered the fact that Drebber had seen Asogi alive.

Upon this discovery, Stronghart and Jigoku were seized with terror. They realized that Drebber would more than likely tell others that he had seen the Professor seemingly rise from the dead. This would in turn uncover the plot to break Asogi out of jail, and subsequently would reveal other related plots - such as the plot to conceal Klint van Zieks' identity as the Professor.

Unable to allow his plan to be ruined, Stronghart chose murder: he convinced Jigoku to murder Asogi by shooting him in the chest with a gun. The gunshot wound instantly killed Asogi, causing him to fall back into his now-real grave. The resulting blood splatter from the gunshot covered Drebber and his camera, leading to Drebber fleeing from the scene in terror. With Drebber gone, Stronghart and Jigoku reburied the now-dead Asogi in his grave.

### Jezail Bullet (ジェゼール・ブレット)
She appeared as a witness during Ryunosuke Naruhodo's subsequent trial for the crime.
[SPOILER]
Her real name is Asa Shinn. Asa Shinn was a renowned British assassin. Her only known client was London's Chief Justice Mael Stronghart. Under Stronghart's directive, she eliminated all defendants who escaped guilty verdicts in Barok van Zieks' trials, which resulted in dozens of deaths. These assassinations caused van Zieks to develop the fearsome reputation as the "Reaper of the Bailey".

As van Zieks always had an alibi during the assassinations, people grew to believe that the fatal ends met by those prosecuted by van Zieks were the result of a curse. This curse was said to be either from Barok van Zieks, or the spirit of his deceased brother Klint van Zieks, who had also been a prosecutor. She worked alongside detective Tobias Gregson, who helped organize the assassination methods during their meetings in an old apartment on Fresno Street.

In order to conceal the truth about the circumstances of a certain case, Mael Stronghart conspired with Seishiro Jigoku to eliminate two targets aware of Stronghart's secrets in an assassin exchange. By performing an assassin exchange, the assassin sent by either side would be spared of any punishment in the country they performed the assassination in, due to custodial conflict. As part of his side of the assassin exchange, Stronghart tasked Brett with going to Japan to dispatch John H. Wilson, who had been staying in Japan as a visiting professor of Yumei University.

On November 19th, Brett dined with Professor Wilson in the high-class western restaurant, La Carneval. Having found out about the professor's recent tooth extraction, she intended to kill swiftly and surreptitiously, by poisoning the carbonated water they were served with curare, as the Japanese police would not be able to identify the obscure poison and she wouldn't die.

She ordered a beefsteak and ate some while waiting for the waiter to give them their water. However, her plan fell apart when she and Wilson were approached by Ryunosuke Naruhodo, who wanted to introduce himself to the visiting professor, as he was a student at Yumei University. Because of this interruption, Brett was unable to leave the vicinity before the curare took effect.

When the professor had succumbed to the curare, his body began to fall. To hide that the professor had died, she used his chair to support his body. No longer capable of going through with her original plan, Brett decided to frame Naruhodo for the crime. She dropped Wilson's handgun on the floor so that the young man would pick it up, and fired her own handgun, which she had concealed under her skirt, into Wilson's chest to conceal the true cause of death. As the restaurant's waiter shoved Naruhodo into the supply closet, she rotated the chair to make the man's back face the table to cover her tracks.

Close to her extradition date to Shanghai, Brett asked that her last memory of Japan be at a beach; with Satoru Hosonaga assigned to her, the government allowed it. Raiten Menimemo, a journalist working under author Soseki Natsume, entered her beach hut to interview her about her crime. However, Brett simply made fun of him, calling him a caveman who failed to understand the difference between eavesdropping and genuine journalism. Unknown to her, the incensed Menimemo slipped some poison he secretly retrieved from a previous interview into her drink through his fountain pen.

Klint van Zieks is the Barok van Zieks's brother, a symbol of justice and noble chief prosecutor in London. He pursued The Professor Killings, but became the last victim of the incident.
[SPOILER]
Klint is The Professor. After this first murder, fellow prosecutor Mael Stronghart quickly deduced van Zieks was the culpritHe blackmailed van Zieks into perpetrating murders that would benefit himself, threatening to reveal the truth to Klint’s wife and his younger brother should he refuse.

Unable to bear the thought of his family discovering his deeds, van Zieks complied, and committed three other highly-publicized murders to Stronghart's benefit. One of these murders was that of the then-Chief Justice, van Zieks' former mentor, so that Stronghart could rise to the position of Chief Justice following the vacancy.

Genshin Asogi had worked out on his own that Klint was behind the murders, as he was the only one with the means and motive to commit them. van Zieks was confronted in his home by Asogi, who directly accused him of the murders. Guilt-ridden by his actions, van Zieks willingly confessed.

For the sake of allowing his longtime friend to die honorably, Asogi proposed they duel to the death. Van Zieks accepted on two conditions: that he be allowed to write a last will and testament confessing his crimes, and that Asogi would ensure protection for Klint’s pregnant wife and unborn child. Asogi agreed to his terms, and van Zieks personally confessed to his wife before penning his will.
