## Description
Set in Hinomoto, a fictional version of Japan, where railway travel served as the primary form of transport for a long time. Each locomotive was paired with a humanoid control module, so-called Raillord, that aided the train operator. However, many rail lines had been discontinued due to the rising popularity of ‘aerocrafts,’ a safe and convenient aerial mode of transport. As such, their accompanying Raillords also went into a deep sleep.

Soutetsu had lost his entire family in a rail accident and was adopted into the Migita household, which runs a shochu brewery in Ohitoyo city. He returned to his hometown to save it from the potential water pollution if they accepted the proposal to build an aerocraft factory nearby. He woke up the Raillord Hachiroku by accident and became her owner. They agreed to help find her lost locomotive for different purposes, with the help of his stepsister Hibiki, the town’s mayor and local railway chief, Paulette, and others.

The victim of a railway accident that left him orphaned—which occurred near the end of the age of rail closures—he set out to repay the family that adopted him, after pulling out of a state of depression that sapped his will to live. Often emotionally despondent, he is viewed by some as being very logical, and by others as lacking humanity. He left his adoptive hometown of Ohitoyo to go to college but has returned upon hearing that there are plans to build an aerocraft factory there which will pollute the town's rivers. Former Imperial Railway 8620-type locomotive top number, exclusive Raillord. Before the dismantling of the Imperial Railway, she was purchased together with 8620 and brought to Ohitoyo. Her abilities were fitting for the top locomotive: knowledge, intelligence, culture, and refinement—the epitome of Japanese beauty. But her abilities have severely deteriorated upon awakening, causing her much grief. She never shows any weakness, except to Soutetsu, and maintains a dignified look wherever she goes. Her sense of responsibility and integrity is profound to the point of abatement, sometimes crushing her under its weight. But with Reina’s easygoing personality, she is able to maintain her sanity. She feels that Soutetsu can be relied upon, but she tries not to do so. Due to her natural proclivities, she is regularly taken advantage of.

Migita Soutetsu’s adoptive sister who is a lover of the arts and employed drawing signboards and maps of Ohitoyo. Always earnest and optimistic, she is the kind of person who can find the silver lining of a situation without fail. She lives in the shadow of her older sister, however, which causes her to hide her love of art. Soutetsu convinces her that it’s not wrong to love what she does, which earns him her respect and is made all the more pronounced by the budding feelings she has for him that go beyond mere admiration. Unfortunately, she is too embarrassed to admit this and refuses to be honest with him.

A Yamori Youkai called Akashaguma who guards the Sawai Family.

[spoiler]Sumi is a kind of youkai that’s born in a house on the verge of being abandoned. If the landlord strongly wishes for it, youkai like Sumi are born. Soon after being born in the house, Sumi was called with "come to Monobeno and protect Sawai Tooru". After being called, she realized that she must exist to protect Tooru and Tooru’s house. So she set out to Monobeno and during the road there, that’s where she met Hishaku. It’s something that she only knows now but, she was a very young and powerless youkai, meaning going outside was very dangerous, she would become an easy meal for other youkais. When she was in danger, Hishaku stepped in and helped her. After hearing what she wanted to do, Hishaku tried to stop her. Because Monobeno apparently has a barrier of sorts. Low level youkai like her would easily be blown away if they tried to approach it. However Sumi refused to stop and tried to go to Monobeno regardless. At that point Hishaku decided to follow Sumi on her journey.[/spoiler]
