Kyon is the main protagonist of the series and primary narrator. He is the second person to join the SOS Brigade, and unintentionally gave [url=/c71228]Suzumiya Haruhi[/url] the idea to form the club. He is the "fourth seat" of the group. He is the only member of the group who is "normal", having no special abilities at all.

She is a shy and cute "moe" girl, often harassed by [url=/c71228]Suzumiya Haruhi[/url]. She is secretly a time traveler from the future who came back in time to observe Her. She is best friends with [url=/c71237]Tsuruya[/url] and shows a great talent for brewing tea. She often has trouble talking to [url=/c71227]Kyon[/url] because many of the things he asks about are "classified" She is the mascot for the SOS Brigade, mainly as a way to attract attention. Because she is so popular, [url=/c71228]Suzumiya Haruhi[/url] uses her as eye candy.

is the fifth person to join the SOS Brigade, recruited by [url=/c71228]Suzumiya Haruhi[/url] because he fit with her idea of a "mysterious transfer student", after he was transferred into North High. He later reveals himself to [url=/c71227]Kyon[/url] as an esper, working for a group he only acknowledges as the 'Agency' (translated as The 'Organization' in the anime). Though he was sent to North High by the 'Agency' to observe [url=/c71228]Suzumiya Haruhi[/url], he believes that it was her will that really brought him there.

he has a polite manner and likes to go into long lectures and explanations with very expressive hand gestures.

In the light novels, he's described at being very bad at board games and cards, but in the anime it's [url=/c71227]Kyon[/url] who usually loses to him

Nagato Yuki is the third person to join the SOS Brigade. At first glance, she appears to be an introverted, taciturn bibliophile. She later reveals herself to [url=/c71227]Kyon[/url] as an alien created by the Data Overmind, and possesses supernatural powers as a result. She was sent to North High to watch over [url=/c71228]Suzumiya Haruhi[/url], and over the course of her time there she comes to develop insights into being a person, as well as emotions (according to [url=/c71227]Kyon[/url]). She is commonly known by her surname "Nagato" (which is not unusual), as [url=/c71227]Kyon[/url] often called her by her surname, as opposed to how he almost always called [url=/c71228]Suzumiya Haruhi[/url] by her given name "Haruhi".

Suzumiya Haruhi is the titular heroine of the series. She is the founding member of the SOS Brigade with the purpose of finding aliens, time travelers and espers.

Although she doesn't know it, all the members of the SOS Brigade she recruits, besides [url=/c71227]Kyon[/url], happen to fit into these groups ([url=/c71232]Nagato Yuki[/url], [url=/c71230]Asahina Mikuru[/url], and [url=/c71238]Koizumi Itsuki[/url] respectively). She is incredibly eccentric and usually anti-social, with no interest in "ordinary" humans. She also, unknown to her, has the god-like abilities to change, destroy, and reshape reality. It is said that if she were to become bored enough with the world, she could create closed space, meaning a new world which could prevent destruction in the "real world". After revealing themselves to [url=/c71227]Kyon[/url], the trio of [url=/c71232]Nagato Yuki[/url], [url=/c71230]Asahina Mikuru[/url] and [url=/c71238]Koizumi Itsuki[/url] all state they were sent by their respective higher-ups to watch over her, and Koizumi specifically mentions they must keep her entertained so she doesn't become too bored.

At first, Tsuruya only seems like an excitable tomboy who loves to dive her head into fun things, like [url=/c71228]Suzumiya Haruhi[/url]; however, [url=/c71227]Kyon[/url] notices a distinct difference in that while [url=/c71228]Suzumiya Haruhi[/url] always pries into mysterious things and their qualities, She only accepts that they are mysterious and simply has fun knowing that fact.

While being [url=/c71230]Asahina Mikuru[/url]'s best friend, their opposing personalities tend to clash. Tsuruya is a loud tomboy who isn't afraid to take risks, getting dirty or playing sports. [url=/c71230]Asahina Mikuru[/url], on the other hand, is a shy girly girl who dislikes risky activity, being bad at sports and squirming when a ball comes close to her.
